Kinky Curly WIGS? Halfiopian Hair Review!

Video media is taking over pretty much everything on the Internet right now, so it’s highly unlikely that, if you’re reading this, you’re not also subscribed to my YouTube channel. Hoowwwwever, people are unique creatures and wonders never cease, so perhaps you’re not! In which case, you may have no idea that I cut off all my hair a few weeks back.

Yeah, I know. Oh, the humanity, etc., etc.

But it looks great, right? Right. Anyway, moving on.

Even though I no longer felt able to handle my glorious mop (damn my weak and flimsy wrists) I’m still NaturallyTiss. Which means 1. I still apply tiny amounts of product to my inch of hair like a damned fool  and 2. I still love the look of coily, kinky and curly hair like nothing else! So when Halfiopian Hair reached out to me about their natural textured wigs, I was hype.

Halfiopian Hair is a black-owned, UK-based, independent business that specialises in crochet wigs of natural Afro texture—from 4c kinky, to 3c/4a coily, to loose, 3a curls. They also have a kinky-straight wig! Have you ever wanted a wig that looks like natural hair? Well, here you go. Whatever your texture, they got you.

They also offer a custom service in which you provide your own specifications and they create a textured crochet wig just for you!

Prices are around the £40-£50 mark, but the company was kind enough to send me a wig free of charge.

I received a custom wig in my own natural texture, 3c/4a. The colour is a mix of 350/33 and it was very long—past shoulder-length, un-stretched.

My first impressions of the wig were very positive; while Halfiopian Hair wigs are all currently synthetic, I found that the curl-pattern was extremely similar to my own. The use of synthetic hair also means that the wig requires far less care and is much more durable and long-lasting than our own fragile, textured hair is.

I also love the colour combination; the shades were interwoven in a very natural and complementary style. Two-toned hair is iffy on anyone except 90s rap icons but I feel like Halfiopian Hair helped me pull it off. Or maybe I, too, am a 90s rap icon, but my memories of that electrifying time have somehow been erased. The jury’s out.

Oh, yeah—I should probably show you guys the wig on me, right? Here ya go:

As you may be able to see, I cut the hair somewhat. I like long hair in theory but in practice I am waayyyy too clumsy and awkward—so I decided to go for a nice bouncy shape.

The hair is luxuriously thick, so it came out great even though I have very little styling skill! I recommend using a mannequin head for this kind of task, but I am too cheap and lazy to buy one so I used my boyfriend’s head instead.

So thus far, you’re probably getting the impression that I’m a fan of this wig. The hair is great quality; the texture is realistic; the density is extremely generous; the colour is beautifully done. Any downsides?

Well, as I mentioned, these are crochet wigs. They’re constructed by weaving hair in rows through an elasticated wig cap, which is very comfortable and sturdy; the caps also have elastic with hooks at the perimeter, which can be used to tighten the wig if needed.

On top of that, since my hair is so short, the company kindly added combs to the cap for me! Typically, they’d recommend the use of hair grips.

Despite the many benefits of this cap construction, though, it should be taken into account that there is no lace frontal or closure involved. The hairline of the wig is simply a black, elasticated band of fabric. Depending on how you were hoping to style your wig, and the colour that you choose, this may be a problem for you.

Personally, the thickness of the hair and the style in which I wore it totally hid the band for me. I hated having my own hair in my face—but since these wigs are synthetic, I can happily style my hair in more dramatic ways!

If these wigs were pricier I might expect a more natural hairline situation, but I don’t mind in this case. It’s also a lot easier to wear than my other wigs; I don’t have to lay any baby hairs or pluck any partings or whatever. I just slap the hair on and go!

Overall, I’m extremely happy with this product. If you follow my social media you’ll have seen me wearing this hair more than anything else since I got it. It’s perfect for someone like me, who has big chopped but loves the look of big hair.

What are you thoughts? Does this service fulfil your need for kinky, coily and curly wigs, or is it something you’ve never really thought about? Have you ever used Halfiopian Hair? Let me know in the comments!

Have a good one,
